Tom wasn't perfect, but Duke is the one to attack the boy, not Tom
I assume and hope that Tom has had discussions with the boy and family. Tom making a public apology after it was clear that Duke invented or misheard would have only extended a dark period in BYU sports. He wanted to avoid that. Could he have been more moderate in his response to the students and fans? Yes, but why would Tom assume that Duke invented the incident?
