Get the app Photosync
to transfer all your photos over to your computer hard drive.

I have a home server that I built that runs the Unraid operating system. It's a purpose build NAS (network attached storage) computer with dual disk parity (I could lose 2 out of 6 hard drives and not lose any data). I actually sync photos from my phone and HCBW's phone directly to my server. When on my home network, the iPhone app can connect directly to my server and transfer photos. There is an auto sync feature, but I do it manually every 3 months or so. The app remembers which photos it has already transferred and only transfers new photos and videos.

There is also a desktop computer app that lets you transfer easily to a desktop computer. The desktop app creates a QR code that your phone app can read to easily make the connection. I used this when I was trying to upload some old photos that weren't in our iCloud (wanted to create a graduation slideshow to loop on an Apple TV).

some key features:
- You can choose to download photos, videos, or both. I have two different transfers set up, one for photos and one for videos, because I want them to go into different folders on my server
- You can choose a file naming convention for example: for example Oilman_Month_year_photo# or HCBW_Month_year_photo#
- You can choose to transfer them in native iPhone file format or convert them to JPEGs
- You can choose file folder structure. for example, do you want it to create a new folder for each month? each year?
- You can choose to delete the photos from your phone after transferring or to leave them on your phone.
- You can download from your phone to a computer, or go the other direction and upload photos from a computer to your phone.
