CGNAT sucks! I was trying to set up remote media access via Plex and DDNS at my
sister's house in Providence with their shiny new fiber optic service. I hit the brick wall that is Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) because the ISP has decided to CGNAT the public WAN IP address into a private WAN IP address that gets assigned to the router. Well, that breaks all services that rely on port forwarding to a public-facing WAN IP address so, no joy.

This was unexpected because I use the same ISP (Sumo Fiber) in Orem on the UTOPIA network and no CGNAT there. At least they will let me (my sister) pay $5 a month for a static public-facing WAN IP address to get around the problem.

Yes, I know why CGNAT is a thing (lack of sufficient IPV4 address), but it is still a pain to deal with on the consumer side if you need remote access to your LAN. 🙁

Sumo Fiber users in Providence be warned, you will be CGNATed.
