If the postseason started right now
Phillies vs Braves/Padres
Dodgers vs Brewers/Cardinals
Yankees vs Orioles/Twins
Indians vs Mariners/Red Sox
Year after year, on paper the 2 seed is more advantageous than the 1 seed because the top wildcard is inevitably better than the 3rd division winner.
They never fix it... and it never really matters because the top seeds lose anyway.
But there's no incentive to play for the top seed on paper anyway.
