If we could've acquired any one of Mag, Egor, or Catchings as they currently stand — if we could've acquired any one
of them last season at the end of December — I have no doubt it would've been Noah's role & minutes at the 4 that they would've dug the deepest into in being phased into our rotation. Yes, we were fortunate we had Noah to man that spot last season, but he was far from an ideal candidate to man the starting 4 spot. His presence in the paint against athleticism — with the exception of the occasional play — left a lot to be desired. And that's definitely no slap on Noah's effort last season. Dude played his heart out for us on D & on the boards — & it's a big reason he was as successful as he was.
While it's true I did leave out Marcus in that comparison — seeings we're still a bit off from late August — Marcus really doesn't belong in the conversation for this season's hypotheical roster yet, anyways. At this time last year he was hot news for Gonzaga — not for BYU.
Like last season, though, it's also true we still have a schollie in play for one more roster expansion.
(Honestly, I also didn't mention Koz as an improvement on Noah at the 4 — & perhaps that's at least debatable. I think Noah's speed advantage gives him the edge at this point, though I think Koz might defend the 4 better than Noah did last season — as soon as his Sophomore season. Koz's strength edge is also pretty significant. There is no question that Koz is also the better scorer of the two in the paint, & a significantly more dynamic shooter than Noah.)
