My impression was that the student body for the most part cares WAY less about the sports teams than the student body at BYU.
There were a lot of Asian students going into the medical field, a lot of students from rural parts of Utah, and a good mix of out-of-state students, all of whom couldn’t differentiate Kyle Whittingham from Kyle Beckerman.
The actual Utah fanbase is loud, but small. They struck gold with Urban Meyer and Kyle Whittingham. But once Whitt’s reign is over, I see no reason why they won’t become just another Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, Oregon State, Cal, etc. Just another average program out West who never really contends for anything, but they’re still around.
