Almost never are death-row inmates allowed to interact with another prisoner.
When I worked in the Missionary department, an individual gave one of our weekly firesides and talked about one of the death-row inmates and how he never had access to any other prisoner and are not allowed out of their cells but something like one hour every 24. If he's a kind of guy that doesn't want any external stimulation, then he found the right place...until the day they execute him.
