Recent Basketball recruiting success is hard to duplicate in football, but ...
What is happening right now in basketball is incredible and unprecedented at BYU in any sport. I see many people that seem to be in dismay as to why this has not happened in football, but they are very different.

In football, there is no one and done. It is harder to get a super high commit to be OK with the rules at BYU for 3 years. Especially when there is a much lower probability of making it to the NFL. For one year a player is willing to sacrifice and most of those players are underaged to begin with so the Word of Wisdom is less challenging.

In basketball you have only 12 scholarship players while you have 85 in Football. Identifying the top 100 basketball recruits is easier than the top 300 in football because many of the great basketball players are playing on elite travel squads and at basketball specialized high schools.

Finally, basketball is a skills sport far more than football. In football a lot can happen to a kid's body after high school. My son is a redshirt Junior, and this is the first year where it has been easier for him to carry 240+ lbs pretty easy which will aid him greatly. In basketball, this transformation is not as important and is also a reason why recruiting in football is harder. You not only need to predict skill but what will happen to their bodies.

I am still optimistic that recruiting will improve in football, but we will not see the same impact as what has happened in basketball in my opinion.
