I’m not saying last yr was as talented as this coming yr. I’m saying both are/were more talented than Duquesne yet lost.

Sometimes the lesser talented team wins so there are no guarantees. Players get injured. Opponents over perform or have a great game plan. Counting chickens & eggs comes to mind. The question was comparing to Duquesne, not the two BYU teams to each other.
