Today I was tubing and had my two youngest with me. When I had to disembark and carry the tube to the exit ramp in the river, the very first place I first landed my foot was directly between two rocks. The rock downstream was flat faced and stopped right below my knee. The rock upstream caught the back of my shoe that I was wearing for a brief second. The water in the river at that spot was about belly deep.

With the moving river water coming around me and with my entire four person tube (only occupied by my two small elementary aged kids) behind me, in that brief second I thought I was going to be caught between those rocks and all of the force of the river and the tube. I had a quick fear my upper tibia was going to break.

Thankfully, Heavenly Father answered our prayers from earlier that morning to keep us safe, and just as soon as I felt that fear, my foot dislodged from the rocks and I was able to pull my kids and watercraft to the ramp.

I escaped with nothing but a small cut the front of my shin.

Anyways, I’ve been thinking about how many times in my life I’ve been in similar situations, and not getting hurt. Heck, that situation could have been deadly to me.

I’ve never broken a bone. I’ve had several significant cuts, including a chainsaw to my hand. But with stitches those healed quickly. Probably my worst injury was when I dove head first in a game of tag and nailed my head in the corner of a 4-by-4. I was unconscious for a while and concussed. Had to stay overnight at the hospital and have a CT scan. No real follow-up from that.
