Could be a scam but I've often venmo'd partial to hold and it's fine
If I want it and it's going to sell fast, then I take the risk. You can't expect the seller to hold it for you otherwise as people no show all the time. So it depends on how badly you want to make sure they don't sell to others.
Maybe negotiate less then half... send them$20-30 for their trouble of holding it for you
