Clint Eastwood ‘Sudden Impact’ Coffee (2)

In this scene of the movie Sudden Impact, several criminals are in the act of robbing a diner. Clint Eastwood walks into the establishment and orders his daily cup of coffee, and they play it cool while Clint gets his coffee. The waitress that serves his coffee pores a tremendous amount of sugar into his coffee. As Clint walks out of the café and takes a sip of the coffee, he spits it out as it is way too sweet. He looks back at the establishment and notices that signs have been put on the doors that they are closed (but the doors are not locked). Clint walks into the café and says… every day for the last ten years, Loretta has been giving me a large black coffee. Today she gives me a large black coffee with sugar in it, a lot of sugar. I just came back to complain. Now you boys put those guns down. One of them says ‘say what’ and Clint responds that we’re not just gonna let you boys just walk out of here. One guy responds... who is ‘we’ sucker, and Clint responds ‘Smith, Wesson, and me.’

A lot of shooting goes on and one of the criminals grabs a waitress, and Clint points his pistol at the criminal and says his famous line, ‘Go ahead, make my day.’ The phrase "make my day" had already been similarly uttered a year earlier in a lesser-known movie from 1982 titled Vice Squad. In that scene, a detective, Tom Walsh (Gary Swanson), while arresting a pimp named 'Ramrod' (Wings Hauser), puts his gun up to the side of Ramrod's mouth and says "Come on scumbag, make my day". This is as per Wikipedia.

“Go ahead, make my day” and “I’ll be back” have got to be the two best movie lines from the 80s that were probably thought to be throwaway lines during filming.

The waitress was played by Mara Corday, who had a number of film roles in the 1950s, including "Tarantula" which featured a young Clint Eastwood as a bomber pilot. After Mara's husband passed away, she ran into financial problems, so Clint gave her roles in some of his films so she could make some money as well as keep her Screen Actors' Guild medical and retirement benefits. Clint Eastwood was always a class act.

There is a lot of violence and shooting in this video, so for those that don’t wish to see a lot of violence and shooting, you may not want to see this.
