I was a little kid, but I vividly remember:

The cougs winning the national championship

Team USA (and Peter Vidmar) dominating the summer olympics in LA (easily the most patriotic olympics of our lifetimes)

Seeing Ronald Reagan speak live in the pouring rain in Hooper

And so on. I didn't appreciate at the time how much it would come to feel like a high water mark of my childhood later on.
