And it's hardly sensical to try to say that SpaceX has nothing to be proud of because they got government money in the beginning. The government has made back way more than their investment in cheaper access to space. NASA failed to do that internally over the last 50 years. They got to space but it was insanely expensive.
Switching over to funding private entities was key, because private entities can take risks, fire lots of people randomly, etc and the government can't.
