I think Demin is likely to play a LOT of minutes for BYU, and since he will be handling the ball and distributing quite a bit, I would expect him to have a higher number of assists. I also think they'll run quite a bit for him on offense. Coach Young isn't going to let him sit too much. He's been playing a lot of minutes already for Real Madrid.
Realistic expectations?
* 12 points per game - seems a lot, but I think it's likely to be a higher-scoring offense like Pope had and Demin will be one of the primary offensive weapons. He can score in a lot of ways, very skilled.
* 4 rebounds per game - I'd likely be happy with this. We don't need him to be a primary rebounder, but with him on the floor we need some rebounding from the guard line. He has size and hops to rebound well.
* 4 assists per game - With the hype about him being a really good distributor and playmaker for others, I'd expect to see offense run through him quite a bit. What some don't realize is that at his size, you could actually put him in the playmaking role that Aly Khalifa did for us last season, though he's quite a different player. The point is that he sees the floor well and distributes well, so I'd hope for an average of 4+ assists per game.
Will be fun to see how he contributes. There will be some adjustment to the American game, but folks forget he's been playing high-level competition with Real Madrid for the past three years.
