basketball is a unique thing. old concepts get rebirthed with added nuances...
...that make it a more complex thing. For example the pick and roll, even when Stockton and Malone were doing their thing it was still very much an old school practice. Now the NBA does more PNR than ever before but it's hardly like the PNR that Stockton and Malone ran let alone what was ran in the early days of the NBA. Same with a modern offensive scheme like Zoom Action. You can watch B/W videos from the 60's NBA and see them running Zoom Action but the Zoom Action we run today has so much more woven into it.

From a coaching perspective I really enjoy the constant evolving the game does and how old tried-but-true principles often seem to get refreshed and updated.
