It wasn't just the losing, it was the lack of institutional control and..
.. multiple player scandals. When you look at the win/loss records there's evidence the program was turning around. The 2003 season and 2004 seasons we played the 2 toughest SOS's in program history back to back and was a few inches away from a winning record and bowl eligibility in 2004.

Had Matt Payne been an inch or two over on his game-winning FG attempt vs ranked Boise State in Boise that would've given us 6 wins playing the #11 toughest SOS in the country that year.

There were just too many scandals. Besides the gang rape scandal there were several players involved in parties during the year that also involved at least one female athlete from swimming/diving or T&F or some other team. Another scandal was a couple football players serving some jail time for assault.
