I made that mistake. I tought the 16-18 age SS class. A few boys did track and I
told them I could still beat them at 37 years old. We ended up racing. I barely lost, like two feet behind the kid, but the next day my knee killed. It hurt solidly for like 8 months. I talked to a PT in the ward and he thought it could have been my hammy. I was surprised because the pain wasn't in my hamstring but on the outer side of my right knee. He said the hamstring also slows your leg down which probably explains the pain where it is. I didn't prepare for the race in any way, just went up and sprinted for the first time in a few years.
