matter how long I cheer for BYU, I have a hard time not looking at each individual game / team, and imagining we play up to our potential, and if the other team does not play to their potential, a win is almost always in the cards. Just a few bounces and a few key plays can make all the difference, or just a few key players emerging (like a non name Ty Detmer), and the whole season can be different.
I mean, we weren't supposed to beat #3 Oklahoma in 2009, but we did. We weren't supposed to beat #6 Wisconsin at their house in 2018, yet we did, as well as a host of other games in which we were underdogs. We certainly should have been blown out to 12-2 (12-3 after the bowl loss) Oklahoma last year, but we were just a couple unlucky bounces away from giving them the loss. Basically, if you isolate each game every year and look at it in isolation, it's hard as true fan (IMO) to not envision a possible scenario for a win. Then, just do that for every game, and whalla! BYU with an amazing season!
Personally, I wouldn't be one bit surprised to see the BYU football team do what the BYU basketball team did last year, and just completely surprise the B12 and the pundits with a really good season. Then again, they could also fall flat. But I have a sneaky suspicion that they surprise a lot of people, especially on defense, and at QB.
