No. That's not Lafayette. That was Major Jean Villeneuve. Maybe fictional.
In checking some sources, they noted that Villeneuve was probably a composite of the French and German mercenaries that came to assist the Colonists in the Revolutionary war.
General Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de Lafayette, fought up north. The Patriot was about war down in the Carolinas--specifically South Carolina.
