and the GX550 was nice because it lopped $30-40k off the asking price. The Land Cruiser has the retro vibe, but it's the same car as the LX600. By the time of the 4Runner, I was pretty much "REALLY? The same 112.5" wheelbase? C'mon."
TNGAF Platform should have NEVER been used on anything smaller than the LX600 (shared with Tundra and Sequoia and STOP THERE. The GX (which is now the size of the LX), is nothing more than the LX600 with a cheaper interior. The Land Cruiser cheapens the interior more and gives you a 4-popper hybrid.
The 4Runner gives you a retracting rear window (yippeee), omits the hybrid, and for most trims gets rid of the full-time transfer case.
To the enthusiast, Toyota would have been better off had they actually engineered a real mid-size platform and created a true Prado, 4Runner, and even a Tacoma.
They are all too fat.
If I had the $$ though, I go with a premium spec'd Land Cruiser, it seems the sweet spot. The GX is sweet, but $75-90k for a good one, you'd be WAY more ahead buying a gently used LX570 or 200 series Land Cruiser. Or just buy a 2023 GX460 and get a way better drive train and save $40k.
The more time passes, I'm kind of disappointed with the TNGAF platform. I feel it's inferior to the outgoing one.
