There is usually a master somewhere. Depending on the home, former homeowner, and/or the ISP, you may want to check out
basement closets or storage areas as well. Our main source is in our basement utility closet, and then cat5e is ran throughout the home into a few rooms with Ethernet ports in the wall. We put mesh wifi routers in those rooms that plug into the Ethernet ports.
