Just one of the reasons that I’ve heard discussed in soccer podcasts and forums.
Soccer seams to be a sport where they cling to tradition and history a lot. Even VAR got a lot of pushback when it was introduced.
They bumped the subs from 3-5 during covid for health reasons and I personally thought it improved the game a bit.
