Yes, those types didn't come to BYU pre-Big 12, but that can change with Big 12 membership (as evidenced by Chandler's commitment). Pope at UK is direct competition for those types. There may also be competition for our players that excel and prove themselves. UK would have been interested in Jimmer and others had the portal existed at that time.

Also, while UK generally wouldn't go after a Saunders-type out of high school, who's to say Pope sticks with the Calipari- style recruiting of 5* and one and dines? I fully expect Pope to take more of a roster/team building approach that may expand the competition even beyond top-50 type recruits.
