I'm not saying Kalani hasn't made some major mistakes which have really cost him. I can't and won't defend him for some of those. I just hope he's learned from them. For instance, I was one of the first to call for him to replace Tuiaki. He finally did but YEARS too late IMO.
Some other issues may not have been his call though, like having Detmer come in as OC to start his tenure. Detmer was too inexperienced and might have been a good QB coach to start but not OC. Detmer's staff was beyond horrible too (Cahoon, Mahe, Empey, and Clark? really?). The offense was destined to crash and burn (which they did in spectacular fashion and unfortunately masked the problems with the defense to a degree).
Still, I'm willing to give him a break and see what happens going forward as I think we just MIGHT have the coaching staff finally in place to be successful. I'm not entirely sold on AR but he's got some good coaches around him, so we'll see. It looks like the S&C staff might be pretty solid too.
I definitely don't want to see BYU start over with a different coaching staff at this point, so I'll back the ones we have until they prove they can't do the job. IMO, it's time to back off and give them at least a couple of years to see where we're headed.
