Sorry to resurrect this old thread... I got some clarification from my wife.
When her stylist worked out of a salon, she tipped her as well as the shampoo girl. Since she's moved to styling out of her home and can and does set her prices, her stylist has asked her to not tip anymore. (My wife corrected me here lest she be portrayed as a horrible non tipping monster)
