If you’re a bad team looking for a starting QB, you already know what Zach looks like on a bad team.
If you’re a good team, you don’t need him to play early, so you aren’t really counting on him. Plus, good teams usually look for veteran guys who can help your starter. Zach doesn’t have that experience yet.
The Rams are the only team (aside from the Jets, ironically) who have an aging veteran with a good team still. Stafford isn’t going to play much longer. It makes sense for the Rams to sign him. But it doesn’t make sense to give up assets when you’re aren’t a contender yet. Especially when it doesn’t make a ton of sense for other teams to trade for Zach.
