CAPX All-American
No longer Zephyr. Back in the game.
I changed my board name from Zephyr to CAPX just now.

As many of you know I sold Zephyr in 2020 and have been away from the company for almost 2 years now. While sidelined, I thought about retirement but more than anything else, I thought about hats. I have had a lifetime passion for creating hats. While watching the industry closely and studying hat companies from all over the world, I realized there is a vast opportunity emerging. I thus decided I was going to make lightning strike twice.

My no-compete contract ended on January 1st of 2024, I hired the best headwear people in the business on January 2nd, and officially started my new company, CAPX, on National Hat Day on January 15th. My first license was BYU and my business partners are all BYU grads and big donors. They have provided the distribution, IT, and other needs that are extremely important in the headwear business. I am very grateful to them.

I have designed and sold over 85 million hats at Zephyr and I expect to do far more with CAPX. I have a new factory, staff, and decades of contacts. My target isn't just fans, colleges, pro leagues, etc, but also resorts, brands, and companies. Basically I am targeting anyone currently with a head. 🙂

I don't plan or intend to win everyone over. If you love New Era or 47 or any other brand, that's great. Stay loyal to what you love. It doesn't matter to me what hat you are wearing as long as there is a Y on it.

I plan to disrupt the cap business. I have new ideas, designs, materials, shapes, better quality, and am using AI and other tools to make hats better and more unique than ever. The CAPX product line will help not only the school but the players as well. By this fall we will also have an online store at capxlab.com.

I am currently working on the product lineup for BYU and other schools for this fall right now. I would love it if anyone who loves hats to boardmail me what BYU hat or hat styles they like the most and why. Or what seem to be missing lately. I consume cap related information every chance I get so let me know any and every opinion you have regarding hats. Look for a big display at the bookstore this fall. There will be giveaways again too. The first CAPX hats will start dropping in June or July.

Thanks again for all of your support for the past 30 years of Zephyr and I look forward to creating the best hats ever at CAPX.

--Please boardmail me with any questions as I don't want to come across as soliciting on cougarboard by posting everything on the general board. I will try to update people via boardmail, friends, or anywhere on here that is private.--
