I swear there were rumors online coming from every fan base of the Big12 finalists (BYU included), that stated "the Big 12 wanted us but told us there wasn't a suitable second team to bring in right now, so we'll have to wait until the next time. But we're definitely the first choice." That included teams like Memphis and Boise.

I'm convinced the Big12 told that same line to someone at every school involved in that dog and pony show just to let them down easier.

This feels like that. I think Utah was told some nice things to help them feel better about being rejected, but there is no intent to bring them in.
