You’re allowed to offset to the right up to 5 miles if needed usually done for wake turbulence.
The separation between aircraft is done vertically using different altitudes.
Sometimes it can make for some pretty cool views when you line up with other airplanes. This was today going from LAS to HNL on the B track.
This was a United 777 (IAH to HNL) that was 1000 ft higher than us and had offset a few miles. The 777 is one of the fastest airliners out there. He left us behind pretty quickly.
Later in the flight an American 787 passed us up also. They were traveling from DFW to HNL. We were at FL350. They were at 360.
