Corn Pop Intervention Needed
Given there was a back immediately to Rex's right who was off the line, it would
not have made sense for Rex to also be off the line. The TE is usually on the line, but certainly doesn't have to be.

There are various reasons for why you might want a certain player on the line and another one off. Being off the line can help create more space and make it less likely for a WR running a slant to be jammed at the line and thrown off his route. You often want the guy lined up the widest to be on the line as he'll generally have the most ground to cover post snap, but not if he's on the same side of the line as the TE.


There are no hard and fast rules anymore, especially if your TE is more like a glorified slot receiver (think Kuithe), but in that particular alignment it was pretty obvious that Rex was supposed to be on the line and Chase was not.
