It was the Monday right after BYU had beaten Gonzaga in the Kennel. I had actually been in Pullman for the last week and only saw the game on TV. I was wearing a BYU jacket and a guy decked head to toe (Hat, jacket, shirt, socks) in Zags gear sits down next to me. He takes one look at my jacket, our eyes meet, and he turns to the flight attendant and orders some alcohol. At the end of the flight, he stands up and tells his associates in front of me "This gentleman is a BYU Cougars fan." He then gives me a big sloppy drunk hug and signals for me to go ahead of him and his associates like I was some sort of conquering hero. Felt pretty good.
But the best part was when I look back briefly at the guy and noticed that he and all his buddies were unknowingly blocking an annoyed guy in a U of U hat from getting off the plane as they slowly and drunkenly collected their bags. I just might have winked and given him a little wave.
