I was a missionary during this season, serving in Utah SLC-South. The BYU-Utah football game was one of the least productive missionary days of the year. No one wanted to set appointments, no one answered their door, and those that did tried to have us come in and watch the game, as severely tempting as it was.
I was in the "want to watch the game" boat, so I proposed something to my MP a few weeks before the game. I mentioned that our Zone had a goal of a certain amount of lessons to be taught during the month. I asked if we were able to hit that goal, then I wanted to reward the Zone by allowing us to watch the game. After some negotiation, the proposal was accepted on the terms that the game was recorded by a member, and we could gather together during the following P-Day to watch the recording.
Well, we didn't reach the lesson goal. However, my MP decided to still allow us to watch the game, and proceeded to grant the same option to the rest of the mission. Everyone could watch the playback of the game the following P-Day.
The mission was super excited. Several missionaries called me asking if I was going to watch the game, to which I smugly responded "who do you think got it approved?"
When securing the recorded video, I had several members jump at the opportunity to record it for us, some offering to watch it again with us.
It was incredibly memorable to watch the end of the game and getting to talk about it for a few minutes with some of the bigger fans in the area.
Our MP proceeded to do this again for the US-Canada Gold Medal Hockey match in the Olympics, as we had a lot of missionaries from Canada (and a lot of Scandinavian missionaries who were just big Hockey fans).
Fun times.
