In terms of recruiting & team-building, Madsen was a VERY smart hire by Cal, I think.
Still not sold on his coaching ability, though. Given their experience, talent, balance, & depth — I thought his team this last season under-performed. That was a loaded, experienced team that shoulda run away w a conference title. Running the point exclusively through Woodbury was not a wise move, imo. UVU's offense had the pieces & experience to be a lot more dynamic than they were.
Felt the same way about Portland & Legans — running their very talented, seasoned team so heavily through Robertson.
Pope (or a couple other coaches in the WCC) woulda taken Portland or Pepperdine's squad to the championship game.
