If you repeat 8th grade once, you are one year older. If you repeat twice, you
are 2 years older. Lots of kids repeat 8th grade to be bigger starting high school. In theory he could have done it twice. It is legal to play high school football at 20, but high school is 4 years max for sports.
Just going by graduating class doesn't tell you how old a recruit is.
