When the Nolan Arenado trade went down, I just couldn't do it anymore. It was a deliberate, willful protest, though. I just can't support Dick Monfort anymore. I despise him. He's completely ruined something that I truly loved.
You take an all-time great 3rd basemen and dump him in his prime. You get basically nothing in return (and that's not just revisionist history - it was nothing the day the trade happened). You trade him to a team most Rockies fans hate. And you PAY them $50 million to take him off your hands.
And it's not just a salary dump. Because the next offseason, you give basically the same contract to a broken-down Kris Bryant.
And then you finally commit to embrace analytics (something that a unicorn situation like playing baseball at altitude desperately requires) and go after a great analytics guy. But he quits seven games in, because in your infinite wisdom as the owner of a team that has literally never even won the division, you refuse to let him do the job you supposedly hired him for.
I just couldn't do it anymore. Life is just too short. My wife was getting tired of me being grumpy all summer.
But the Nuggets? I've been consistent.
