The breakfast was great. I was really impressed with Derrick Fox. Extremely friendly and welcoming. He just wanted to reach out to the alumni associations from the new schools joining the Big XII. BYU was the only school in San Antonio with a local chapter that he could find on the internet. He was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about BYU football and traditions. He mentioned that he had a good relationship with Sark because of the times he's come to the Alamo Bowl with Washington and then Texas.
Derrick told us that when BYU makes it to the Alamo Bowl (speaking with an eye-of-faith) they were there to help us facilitate any alumni activities such a golf or finding tailgating venues, hotel room blocks, etc...
I told him to expect a drop in beer sales, and he said they were well aware. Bowls are aware that when BYU comes to a bowl they have to arrange their hotel room blocks differently because of the players that come with their wives and families.
Here are photos of the breakfast. I'm there with my wife, who is the current co-chair of the San Antonio chapter of the BYU Alumni association, along with the couple that will be taking over for us soon. Derrick Fox is on the right by the window. One of his staff members, Luke, is opposite him. They paid for breakfast and gave us a gift bag some Alamo Bowl t-shirts as gifts. It was a fantastic experience and I came away very excited about being in the Big XII. I'm so impressed with how proactive the Alamo Bowl staff was in reaching out to us. Can't wait for us to be in the Alamo Bowl some day.
