Currently military spending is about 20% of federal revenue, and it was as high
as 50% in the ‘70s and 30% during the Great Recession. The US spends much more on the military in $$ and as a % of GDP than any other large nation, including China and Russia (pre-Ukraine war, anyway; this may have changed recently). We have more military spending than we should have. Likewise social programs, and especially farm subsidies and other special interest handouts.
