Sure I can see the contract thing and the matching salaries and all the considerations in a trade where the Jazz send a player (Beesley or Vanderbilt or whoever) to the Lakers for a first round pick and Westbrook gets thown in for salary considerations.
But Westbrook is still playing well and is in the lead for the sixth man award. Which means why would the Lakers trade a first round pick and Westbrook for one of the Jazz players mentioned?
Then why would the Jazz buy out Westbrook when he's playing well? He would still play this year for the Jazz or play somewhere. The Jazz get the first round pick but it would be an expensive trade for them, what with having to buy out Westbrook. This trade has been rumored for months but not happened so doesn't look like it's going to happen now.
Now I (and no one else) can figure out in advance what the teams in a trade are thinking so I don't know what the deal is. But I can't see that deal happening. I don't think the Jazz want Westbrook on the team but they do want the first round pick for one of the mentioned players. So maybe doing the trade and buying out Westbrook is what they might do. It just seems unlikely.
