My adult daughter died without a will in December and I'm starting the relatively simple process to settle her small estate (no spouse or children, no real property, no cash assets, one older car, total value below 10k--well below the state definition of a "small estate".) I'm preparing the state-required small estate affidavit that requires notarizing but (surprisingly?) no filing with the probate court. This seems almost too simple/straightforward and I'm waiting for other unknown shoes to drop.
Any lessons learned or war stories out there?
