Grand Del Mar isn't really in Del Mar but it's grand. And pricey. And one of San Diego's best restaurants, also very pricey (Addison).

The Hilton Torrey Pines is literally on a fairway of the Torrey Pines Golf Course if that's your thing.

The Grant is a fantastic hotel downtown, but with our homeless problem I'd still probably not go there. Manchester Grand Hyatt is another good property downtown, probably a bit removed from the homeless. Downtown has access to the Gaslamp Quarter, which has some good restaurants.

For beach access, the Marriott in Del Mar isn't right on the beach but is a 2-3 minute drive from Torrey Pines State Beach, a good one.

Aviara in Carlsbad is a great resort type hotel. Not super close to the water but close enough, and a great property.

Just a few ideas. I'm cheap so I'd probably not go to any of these, but all are quality places. For a real bargain, you'll have to zone in on what you're really looking for and the right location.
