They used to make good YA novels
Rascal was fun.

I've heard Swallow and Amazons is well written.

Maniac Magee was solid.

The Freddy the Pig series was actually quite well written.

A Wrinkle in Time was good.

Holes was fun.

To Kill a Mockingbird is probably the GOAT

Phantom Toolbooth, The Outsiders, Little Women, Tom Sawyer, The Dark is Rising,, Wind in the Willows, etc.

Now seems like it's all crummy action with sorting hats or troubling and simplistic explorations of romance and trauma.
