When my son got a 30 and he had good grades, I knew he’d get in. Then he got a 31 and I knew even more.

No. The essays are heavily weighted for acceptance. A 30 plus ACT would be a

What I have seen is no there is not. ACT doesn’t matter much anymore which is

It matters but isn’t overly weighted.

Just wrong and weird. My kids haven't bothered applying due to the stories

I love it when people list seminary council or seminary class president
Turd Ferguson

Shouldn't they be at a school like BYU?

no
Turd Ferguson

please explain why not?

I see it the same as Laurel Class president
Turd Ferguson

Seminary class president actually means that you most likely are a good
kotacoug

It’s an indication that their seminary recommendation was likely solid.

Whether you or I think it is important or not doesn't matter. Most
GSwarriorcoug

that would be a really dumb reason not to get in
Turd Ferguson

by 26 GPA, do you mean 26 ACT or 2.6 GPA?
The Shazad

Whoops. 26 ACT. Corrected it.

that ticks me off. I'm not married yet nor have kids so i haven't followed the
ColonelMustard

It’s really not arbitrary. The kids with good qualifications still generally get in. Essays just matter more now.

It's weird. My own daughter didn't apply but I think she probably would have

The best part about the high standard for acceptance at BYU

ummm ok. Even at half tuition scholarships BYU is still cheaper than everybody
Mayor of Cougartown

My son had multiple full tuition offers and a few full offers
USMCdad

one daughter had full ride offers from schools in CA (residence), but chose BYU

Absolutely, and that’s the point of my post, not to downgrade BYU

My son got a scholarship to ASU... the fees, dues and parking came out close to

My son went that route as well but graduated with very little debt

This is something that often goes ignored.

My son received substantial scholarships from UofU and USU.
Superkid

Same, the offers mine had made ASU, UofA, UofU, USU and Tulsa all
USMCdad
4/8/21 2:48pm
Probably not. I think it all depends on seminary teacher recommendations
Princepete
4/8/21 3:11pm
I may be in minority but using seminary teacher recommendations is silly.
Gibbcoug
4/8/21 3:16pm
I hope you are not in the minority. There is such a wide range of seminary teach
Turd Ferguson
4/8/21 3:22pm
Ya, I think it's incredibly stupid as well but just a correlation I've noticed
Princepete

We had a kid in our stake denied to byuI due to seminary teacher.
Gibbcoug
4/8/21 5:59pm
yikes, that is like 99.7% acceptance rate
Turd Ferguson
4/8/21 6:35pm
I got in with a 24 act, but I was a transfer student.
