His name was Fred Miller and he was AD at ASU when they and Arizona got invited. At SDSU he seemed to believe that if he could make WAC top dog BYU look bad, that helped SDSU in their quest. He'd go out of his way to downgrade BYU any chance he got. For example, their QB Todd Santos set a passing record during the game played in Provo one year and Miller went out of his way to complain to the media afterwards how classless BYU was to not have stopped the game at that very moment so there could have been a ceremony to award the game ball to his record-breaking QB. Oh, and BYU won the game.
Regarding Todd Santos - he led the nation in passing yards and TDs in 1987:
