Conference realignment has been decided by university presidents and their
respective boards, legal teams, et cetera, with input from but not direction given by athletic directors.
If it were up to athletic directors, BYU would have been in the PAC-12 decades ago, and teams would be playing in conferences dictated by regional proximity and traditional rivalries rather than chasing TV contracts and eyeballs across time zones and media markets.
