My companion hurt his ankle bad as we were out working as he came off a curb wrong. His ankle ballooned to the size of a small melon. We go to the open queue health center and get a ticket similar to a DMV. After 75-90 minutes we get in to see the doctor. After explaining the story the doctor softly pokes the ankle with the end of her pencil, says she cannot do anything until the welling goes down. She prescribes two weeks of codeine and tells him to come back.
It was not a horrible visit but there were no options for a second opinion (since no other doctor offices in our town), no chance to get crutches or checking if it was damaged more than a sprain. I had to send him back to the US to get surgery to have it repaired about three weeks later. We have challenges in the US but turning our health care into this is not something I want to experience again.
