just like we didn't take our kids to movies we wanted to see or out to eat in restaurants that weren't things like McDonald's until we felt they were old enough or mature enough to behave for the duration.
No doubt much of it was we didn't want to have to deal with possible bad behavior in a public setting but that thought certainly includes how it affects everyone else in that setting.
So yes what I said is 100% the case, we waited until we felt they were old enough to be expected to behave for whatever the duration of the activity may be to take them or do it with them and that included flights, movies, restaurants, theme parks, etc.
Of course all kids are different so those things are a judgement call, and we're not always right when making judgement calls, but that is your responsibility as a parent.
This sort of thing used to be the common way people handled having children, they didn't take them and put them in those situations but this more permissive attitude had certainly become more common than it once was.
