While on active duty I was able to knock out 2 Associates, a Bachelor's, a Masters, and a LSSBB Certification simply by using tuition assistance. I used every education dollar they allotted me, then I transferred my GI bill to my daughters. My oldest used most of it, but my 2nd daughter got 3 semesters paid for. We are helping out #3 because her sisters basically got to go for free. BYU-I is cheap, and I teach there online so I just use some of that pay to cover her tuition (online instructors don't get the discount). Daughter #4 can go to any UC or Cal State School tuition free due to my VA status. She will probably end up at Long Beach because that's the only one down south that has her degree. She's also going to apply to BYU-H, so we will see what happens.
There are some parents that would steer their kids away from the military...I'm all for it if my daughters want in. (Disclaimer... I am 4th generation military).
