The temperament isn't the issue as much as the fact that pit jaws are lethal
any dog could snap and go after a person but there are very few breeds capable of mauling people to death on their own.
I've known some very nice pit bulls and I've known a mean Cocker Spaniel or two, but I wouldn't be worried about the mean Spaniels coming at me. If a pit is having a bad day and decides to snap at someone.... could get deadly even if it's not a bad dog.
