I'm a lifelong Duke fan, and that is the namesake for my username. To my recollection, 1991 is the only year where we utilized all 13 scholarships. K just doesn't do that, so maybe he wants a luxury shooter just in case the shooting woes continue? Part of me thinks he really likes LDS kids as he's already coached Matt Christensen, Chris Burgess, Jabari Parker, and Frank Jackson... but I can't for the life me fathom Toolson ever being in the rotation. K generally only plays 7-8 guys, so I'm not sure how he could find minutes for him. Sometimes K will tell a recruit something along the lines of, "I can't promise you any minutes. You'll have to earn them." If per chance he were offered a scholarship, I don't think he would see anything outside of mop up time.
Duke has struggled with outside shooting recently, and certainly that is Toolson's biggest strengths. But we're bringing in several kids next year that are more than capable shooters. And we're expected to get verbal commitments from Matthew Hurt and Cassius Stanley this week. So between O'Connell, Baker, White, Hurt, Stanley, Moore, and Ellis (guys that play the 2-4 spots), I would surprised if 1. He were offered a scholarship, but very, very surprised if 2. He actually played meaningful minutes.
